The first Adam
Adam, known in the bible individually as “a human”, while collectively representing “mankind”, was the first person created by God who granted him complete freedom while taking care of the garden.
Regardless of Adam’s free will, he was not allowed to eat from “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”. Adam chose to eat from the fruit, knowing he was disobedient, when it was offered to him by Eve and in the blink of an eye his fellowship with the living God was broken.
God’s perfect creation was defiled through Adam’s rebellion and mankind would be separated from their Creator through this sinful act of disobedience.
God, being who He is, knowing the beginning from the end, had put a plan into motion to remedy the fall of man. The Scriptures tell the story of how God would give a part of Himself in the form of His Son, Jesus, who would become the mediator between man and God, the Father.
Our sinful nature is testament to the fact that we are Adam’s descendants. Just as he shied away from his sin and cast the blame on Eve, we often avoid responsibility and run away from the consequences of our poor judgements.
Regardless of our sinful nature, we were created in the image of God and He continues to seek fellowship with us, even though we are free to do as we please. God is pleased with those who choose to love Him or else He could have simply created robots.
Let’s learn from Adam’s shortcomings and look to God for salvation as we cannot change the fact that we are sinners, but we can allow the Lord to change our hearts so that we can become a new creation through the death and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
