Numbers
The present generation of the Israelites were prevented from entering the promised land due to their unbelief and mostly disobedience.
A journey that should not have taken longer than 6 weeks ended up lasting 40 years as they whined and moaned about every possible thing that might cause them discomfort, while longing back to Egypt.
Even though God proved to be patient with His people, they tested Him continually. They were not content with the manner in which God provided in their needs and eventually their due punishment would come.
We are no different. How often do we not complain about our circumstances? The same way a naughty child would grumble and moan if things don’t go their way…
After the law was given to the people and a census taken, they were set apart as the Lord prepared them spiritually and physically for the journey ahead towards the promised land. Their sanctification process would last much longer than was required, due to their discontentment.
Not only did they complain about the food, but also the way Moses dealt with them. Then they became scared after hearing the news about the posing enemy and for this reason the current generation would not enter the promised land.
Sin and unbelief has to be dealt with swiftly and accordingly or else your loved ones will begin with a downwards spiral to their own demise. A life long journey could follow where they wander off the path God intended for them to travel on, leading to their spiritual destruction.
Many paid with their lives while others were disciplined by God and instead off turning to the Lord, the complaining and moaning continued. The more they grumbled the longer they waited for their inheritance. Does this sound familiar?
Eventually the new generation emerged, defeating their enemies and trusting in the Lord, preparing to take possession of the land God promised them.
We need to take God at face value and fully trust in Him. He will keep His promise for He is a faithful God.
