Mat 6 v 25-34; Acts 9 v 20-43; Ps 16 v 1-11; Gen 36 v 1-43
Seek first the kingdom

I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.” (Ps 16 v 8)

What does it mean to seek the kingdom of God? We know that God says His kingdom is not of this world, but because we are in this world, this is probably our biggest challenge, simply because we are so overwhelmed by everything “required” to make a living.

Jesus describes how He provides for His creation and loved ones, and that we should not become anxious about the day of tomorrow, for it brings its own troubles.

He instructs us to “seek FIRST His kingdom and righteousness and all these things will be added to us“… “which things?”, you may ask. Well, the things described in the preceding verses. We should therefore not be concerned about what we will eat, drink or wear for He knows what we need.

To seek (first) the kingdom of God, is to put Him before anyone and everything else in our lives. Only in Him do we find rest, peace and assurance. In Him is truth and salvation, which is what we need first and foremost, should we wish to live forever with our Creator, once we transition from this life to the next.

There is no hope outside of Christ and yet people live as if this life is all there is to live for. I think it is time to break free from the burdens of this life. Yes, we have to work and earn money, but instead of trying to fight for survival, let us focus on our relationship with the Lord and allow Him to take care of our basic needs.

After all, He knows best, because He is God!
