The book of Joshua centers around obedience. Doing things God’s way. Using your free will to seek the will of God, the same way you would obey the instructions of an effective leader.

Joshua was committed to obeying God and remained faithful until the end of his days. He was ethical in all his dealings and didn’t tolerate any sin. Quite the opposite to many of the leaders in our day and age…

Joshua followed in Moses’ footsteps as a brilliant military leader, grounded in his faith, having the ability to set the example of what it means to submit to God. Joshua listened and obeyed, whenever the Lord spoke to him and served as a model for obedience to God.

This was evident in the conquest of Jericho when the people, led by Joshua, followed God’s instruction to march around the city no less than 13 times, while their next battle wasn’t successful for someone had sinned and they were driven back. After the sin was dealt with they were victorious with their next attempt.

It is the same today. When one part of the body sins, everyone is affected and the result is the same when another part suffers. We should deal with sin constructively, without delay and also pray for those, who suffer and do whatever we can to help carry their burdens.

God worked wonders in helping Joshua and the people conquer the promised land and can do the same for us, if we only put our trust in Him. Our hope and our trust should be accompanied by obedience for this is the only way to please the Lord.

Therefore, “choose for yourselves today whom you will serve…
