Day 2
1 John 2 v 24 - 3 v 10; 1 John 3 v 23 - 24; 1 John 4 v 7 - 21

We are promised eternal life, should we abide in the truth and keep His commandments of which we are taught by God Himself, through the working of the Holy Spirit.

If we are to remain in the truth, i.e. remain in Christ and become like Him, we are told to practice righteousness and this involves living a pure and blameless life, while loving one another like He loved us, by giving up His life for us.

At the same time, we are warned against “practicing sin [lawlessness]” (1 John 3 v 4). If we live in sin, we start to fear God and eventually avoid fellowship with Him and this causes us to drift further and further away from Him, although this will not make the pending punishment disappear.

If we truly love Him and believe in His love for us, through the death of our Messiah, His love will be perfected in us and we will naturally love our brothers and sisters, for it is impossible to have a “love – hate” relationship with others, while claiming to love God.

From these passages we can see that God is love and if we are to love like He did, we are required to obey His law that He has written on our hearts. If you are convicted in your heart about your sin, do not ignore it, but instead seek His forgiveness and favour, having confidence before Him when He returns.
