How many times have you heard that “consequences are the net result of the choices we make”?

Just as Abra(ha)m had a choice whether he would follow after God’s instructions, we too practice our free will every day with the decisions we make, right or wrong.

The fact that we don’t know what the results of our choices will be, should cause us to think carefully before simply deciding to do something, seeing that the outcome may affect ourselves and others for many years to come.

Abra(ha)m took a leap of faith when He obeyed God and set out with his family to the unknown. He knew he could trust the Lord and the fact that he did, put into motion events that would affect the history of God’s people.

Through this nation, God would send the Messiah and fulfill the promise of our Saviour who would come in the form of Jesus. The result of Abraham’s decision to trust God can still be seen to this very day.

Abra(ha)m was not perfect, but his faith was reckoned unto him as righteousness and we can learn much from his obedience to the Lord, for God was pleased with him and even provided a sacrifice after instructing him to offer his son, Isaac.

Although Abra(ha)m would often distort the truth to avoid conflict, when he was pressured, he continued to serve the Lord. This comes to show that God uses imperfect vessels to achieve His goals. Nowhere is it written that God’s children are flawless and Abra(ha)m is a good example.

We can learn from Abra(ha)m’s life. Before you take action today, think about the consequences and how your free will can affect those around you.

“Then he believed in the Lord; and He reckoned it (un)to him as righteousness.”
