Dead to the law, alive through Christ

“Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God” (Rom 7 v 4).

The purpose of the Mosaic law was completed in Christ. He was indeed the fulfillment of the Old Testament law, as it was prophesied, and only through His death and resurrection are we able to “serve in newness of the Spirit…” (Rom 7 v 6).

In the same way the law was fulfilled, the prophecies regarding the tribulation and end time events will be fulfilled in due course. Jesus describes a very difficult time ahead, such as “has not occurred since the beginning of the world until then, nor ever will (again)” (Mat 24 v 21).

This should not frighten us, but instead give us hope for the promise of a glorious return by Jesus, who died as a suffering servant, just as it was prophesied, but He will return “with power and great glory” to give final judgement over all the earth.

Through Christ, we are born into God’s family and freed, not only from the bondage of sin, but also from that which bound us to these earthly bodies. Let us therefore pray, like David did that the Lord; “Be gracious to each of us, for our souls take refuge in Him…” (Ps 57 v 1) [paraphrase].

These earthly vessels are only of a temporary nature. Do not allow the temptations of this world to take away the rich and beautiful promises of an eternity with God and the opportunity to come face to face with our Saviour, Christ Jesus.
